Development at Fairwinds must carefully consider impacts to natural
systems and our use of natural resources. Hydrological function and the
management of rainwater (often referred to as ‘stormwater’) is no
exception. Furthermore, successful management of rainwater at Fairwinds
can protect water quality, enhance habitat values and contribute
aesthetically to the resort community at large.
Strategies and “Best Management Practices” employed currently and/or planned for the future within Fairwinds include:
• Minimization of overall development footprints
• Minimization of impervious surfaces to reduce runoff
• Retention of native vegetation to absorb & infiltrate rainfall
• Constructed wetlands as an alternative to conventional, piped stormwater infrastructure
• Ongoing environmental monitoring to ensure proper function and overall health of natural systems
